The research subject of teaching methodology is located at the interface between subject-related theory, empiricism and teaching practice. Teaching methodology as a research discipline deals with the teaching and learning of knowledge, ways of thinking, methods and skills in a subject. This includes the target group-oriented preparation and communication of subject-specific knowledge, the support of learners in developing skills and the analysis of teaching and learning processes. Central research questions deal with different teaching and learning contexts from a pedagogical and teaching methodologies perspective as social and culturally shaped situations as well as complex conditional structures of individual and social influencing factors. The focus is on researching the acquisition and teaching of subject-specific and interdisciplinary skills. These can be linguistic, cognitive, motoric, psychosocial, scientific-mathematical or ethical skills, but also action and methodological skills, to name just a few areas of competence. The scientific examination of these research fields and questions often transcends the boundaries of disciplines and requires interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches and methods.
